best bottle to supplement when breastfeeding?

My daughter is going through the 6 week growth spurt. I have exclusively breastfed her to this point, but tonight I have no more milk and she is hungry! What is the best bottle tand nipple o supplement her with some formula? Can I use the Aventi 5 ounce bottles I used for my 2 year old, but with a one-month nipple? What are the smaller bottles I see other Mom's with? I never had to supplement with my son, so I just have no clue what to do! Thanks so much!

we use Avent 4 oz bottle -supposedly they are good to keep nipple confusion at bay. My daughter had no problem going between breast and bottle in the first place. She did, however, hate formula when I felt like I had no milk (I think it's all that iron), so we mixed expressed breast milk with formula and it seemd to work. Good luck!

We tried a lot of bottles, but ended up loving First Years Breast Flow, supposedly designed to emulate the efforts of breastfeeding. Could be a load of whooey regarding the "built to avoid nipple confusion" but it worked for us. good luck.

I recently asked a similar question of my lactation consultant and she recommended the dr. brown nipples (can be used on avent bottles). Also the playtex nipples--can't remember the exact name. choose a slow flow nipple (eg #1). According to my LC the issue isn't so much nipple confusion as flow preference.

I would for for Born Free or the MAM BPA frees (available at Wegmans and whole foods)

I use the Born Free bottles - BPA-free and not leaky, and don't seem to give my son as much gas as the Medela bottles (we bottle-feed EBM). Only drawback is that they are pricey and have lots of parts. I recommend the starter kit that has 3 5-oz bottles, 1 9-oz, and a sippy cup, plus 3 level one nipples and two level twos. My 3.5-mo old is still using level 1s...

My LC recommnded Nuk nipples for paci or bottles for mimicing the way baby uses his mouth on it most like a nipple.

Good luck

I have to add another vote in for the BreastFlow bottles. i am currently using these with my 9 week old (started at 4 weeks with them) and have had no problems at all. I did try a second nature bottle, but she would not take to it. I really like the way they fit in her mouth and require her to suck to get milk vs. it flowing on it's own.

Each baby is different though....

My DD only uses Nuk nipples. She is even particular to the Nuk Pacifiers as well. I came upon them when she refused every other type of nipple. She would drink only few oz to satiate herself but never a full bottle. Then I remembered that in the hospital, they used Nuk nipples to feed my DD because she was becoming jaundice. If it was good enough for the hosipital...so I tried it and never looked back. She just gulps 8oz at a time.

Hi, we used Breast Flows (and loved them) until the BPA controversy and then switched to Sassy MAMs and have used them for a while. I highly recommend them (and avoiding BPA).

We use Nuk slow-flowing nipple and Born Free bottles. DD is 5 1/2 months old.

By the way, I am having the same issue with DD: she is eating like crazy these days. Starting solids (oatmeal cereal mixed with breast milk) really helped in our case. Just a thought.

We had to supplement at the beginning due to slow weight gain and were concerned about nipple confusion. My LC recommended Nuk and Avent, and we had no issues going back and forth - breast and bottle. But, there were occasions that she seemed confused, but think it was more tired/laziness because she would be okay at the next feeding. Just have to work at it. As the PP said, every baby is different though.
