Is it OK to use the name of a character from 'The Dukes of Hazzard" as a social media name?

Anonymous
For anonymity and fun, I have long used the name of a character from The Dukes of Hazzard as a social media name (Boss Hogg). As you may know, the comedy series used some Confederate themes. For example, a car is named "General Lee" and has a Confederate flag on its roof. In this day and age of greater sensitivities should I cease use of that name?

Why would it not be OK?

Well, I see the removal of Confederate-era names from schools, streets, and highways in the interest of not honoring what the Confederacy represented. So that's what I mean by greater sensitivities. -- OP

I would not be impressed or enthused by such a name.

It's about as good of a look as driving around with a Confederate flag. But you already knew that.

Oh Boss Hogg - that lovable scamp!

I hate to say it but the only thing not cancelled from Dukes of Hazard is daisy dukes, as in the shorts. I say this as a DofH fan, but in my world I would think either you are someone that specifically continued to use that name to make a point, or you are really, really, really clueless like HFA clueless. All that said, it does matter in context, if you are a nice 60+ year old grandfather in Halifax, VA, I'd assume it isn't on your radar.

Honesty, the series was decades ago I don't think it will cause most people to even think twice.

It's completely inappropriate to use the name of a corrupt local politician as your handle. After it's a parody, those people don't exist.

Most people wouldn't remember that. Only us olds.

I haven't watched that show since I was about 6 years old, so my memory is fuzzy. Did Boss Hogg do anything that honored the confederacy? I know the Duke boys did with the "General Lee"--but Boss Hogg was their enemy.

Yea for sure.
