What's your HHI + NW and where do you shop?

Anonymous
I am curious about the relationship between house hold income and wealth and where do women spend their money.

For me,

HHI combined goes from 250k - 450k depending on my husband's business. I am pretty low key and shop at:

- Nordstrom, J Crew, Macys, Sephora, Lululemon, Target

I do not spend more than $200 for a dress unless its a special occasion.

What about you?

800k. I buy expensive things, but not outrageously priced.

Besides for athletic wear, I mainly buy items made in the US, Canada, or Europe. Many items are from smaller, lesser known brands. I will occasionally find things that meet this criteria at Nordstrom, Net-a-Porter, shopbop. I love searching Garmantory for interesting finds made by small businesses. I get linen summer dresses on Etsy made in Lithuania

I don’t buy target, old navy, Costco, or similar ever- not even
For my kids. Total garbage clothes.

$50k

Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Dollar Store, Family Dollar, BestWorld

Nordstrom, Athleta, Gap, H&M (for kids), Target, J Crew. Pretty much anywhere—I’m very selective and only buy if quality is decent; if something falls apart in the wash, I have no qualms about politely asking for a refund or exchange for different item.

HHI $140k
NW... Not sure. "Low" for DCUM, like $500-700k?

For clothes, for me...

Vintage/consignment shops

eBay for vintage + designer (DvF, AG jeans, PUG, etc.)

Thrift stores (Value Village, etc.)

Clothing swaps (in the beforetimes)

TJ Maxx/Nordstrom Rack/Off 5th and fancier outlets, when I can get to those

Pretty rarely, but especially for important events, something fancier, like Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, even Saks... but I usually get the thing on eBay after trying their stuff on. Ah, well. Occasionally I'll get something from one of those places on clearance.

Revolve.com

DSW

Old Navy/Gap for some of my athleisure

eBay.co.uk or Belle Lingerie online for my British bras

Amazon, but mostly for very specific purchases-- bras or shoes I've generally tried on elsewhere

I've been known to grab retro tees or PJs from Zulily

I also have some fun tees from my favorite podcasts or Teespring/Threadless

I have a bunch of Loft in my closet from when I got an outside-the-home job suddenly and panicked. Some of it is cute, but ugh, I hate "business casual" and most of it, even cute, is not high quality or terribly flattering.

For my kid, it's about 70% hand-me-downs or thrift or TotSwap (lots of mid+ brands, like Mini Boden, Lily Pulitzer, Gap, Land's End, some lower end like Old Navy), 20% Old Navy/H&M/Gap/Amazon and 10% random boutiques or something fancier.

600K HHI - Costco and Target for kids clothes, Nordstrom for me and DH. We use Trunk Club and usually keep whatever they send us. We have no style and hate shopping.

$255k HHI, $1M NW. I WFH so usually wear very casual clothing - Lululemon, Varley, Splendid, and Michael Stars make up the vast majority of my everyday wardrobe. My non-athleisure clothes are mostly from Anthropologie with some J. Crew and Madewell.

HHI $180,000

For me - Boden, Lands End, LLBean, Old Navy, Nordstrom Rack, Banana Republic, etsy for jewelry

For kids - Costco, old navy, Lands End

For household - amazon, costco, commissary (we are military)

Low seven figures. Consignment stores. Also, Target, Marshals, HomeGoods, TJ Maxx.

$750-$800K - Mostly J. Crew, Madewell, Tuckernuck, Consignment (RealReal or Poshmark), Talbots, Emerson Fry, and sometimes Ann Taylor for work basics. Consignment is where I get almost all of my designer clothes. I can't handle paying full price for those items.

Kids - Dick's, Marshall's, Children's Place, and Amazon. I have boys and they are not into clothes at all.
