Indian grocery store?

Anonymous
Hi, I recently moved to DC/ Capitol Hill and am looking for an Indian grocery store that's not too far away. I saw there are a few in Hyattsville langley park but is there anywhere closer? I did find one in Arlington but it wasn't wonderful so looking for other options. Thank you!

At Greenbelt Mall near the Target. We also go to Global Food Market grocery store just off 29 in Briggs Chaney near Paint Branch.

There is a really good but small Indian store in Bethesda on Old Georgetown Road.

DP — good to know. I’ve driven past that store and wondered whether it was worth checking out!

NP. Can you tell the name? I’m not familiar with the area and searching on Google maps isn’t helpful

Guru Groceries and Chaat House

My H goes to Guru Groceries and has been pretty happy with the selection there. He appreciates the staff there being so helpful and the homemade chaat is good (I can attest to that as well). He usually goes on Sunday mornings where the parking garage nearby is both free and open. My H has also shopped at Aditi Spice Depot in Vienna. That store has a larger selection with more produce. However neither of these is close to Capitol Hill but I hope it helps.

Patel Brothers in Gaithersburg (near Lake Forest Mall) is phenomenal. Worth a trip for Indian, Pak, BangalaDeshi, Nepali, Sri Lankan groceries.

Go to the nearest Indian restaurant and ask them.

The one in Greenbelt would be pretty easy on the Marc train if you could go morning or afternoon on a weekday.

There are basically no Indian grocery stores in DC - it's pretty mind-boggling. We used to rent a car (before we owned one) and trekked out to Hyattsville or settled for A1 grocery in Arlington.

Indian Spices in Falls Church is not bad…and you can get your eyebrows threaded next door.
