DC Indoor Mask Mandate - End Date?

With Montgomery County's indoor mask mandate ending does anyone think DC will do the same?

Your case count is nearly twice ours. Work on that.

I live in DC and our vaccination rate sucks and we have a sizable population that is antivaxx but pro-mask.

Bowser is happy to keep the mask mandate going, especially because art doesn't apply to her or anyone else who matters.

LOL. No. We will mask for eternity.

Montgomery's seven-day case rate per 100K residents is 44.83, per the CDC ("moderate" transmission). DC's is 88.60 ("substantial" transmission). DC won't be doing away with its (admittedly pretty silly) mask mandate until that number gets below 50. If the current rate of decline holds up (about 10 percent per week), we're still looking at another six weeks before we can think about it, and I'm going to bet DC will not lift the mask mandate right in the middle of the holiday season.

January, is my guess, assuming we don't see a holiday spike (a big assumption, but a lot of people also are getting boosters right now so who knows).

For the record, this DC resident is doing all of my grocery and everyday shopping in VA or MoCo as a personal protest against the ongoing ridiculous mask mandate in DC. Just returned from a Safeway in Arlington and it was so nice to see at least 50% of people shopping there unmasked

The good news, DC has laid out a vaccination site and schedule for the 5-11 age set that starts in two weeks. So presumably, once a critical mass of kids are vaccinated, things will change significantly.

If *only* that were true. In all likelihood it will just means that the goalposts get moved again...and again...in perpetuity.

Yep, this is the worst part of it. The mandate is so porous (and as you said, disregarded by "important" people) as to be virtually worthless, so why keep it? The only reasonable explanation is that government officials love hanging on to every shred of power that they can.

Somehow, all of this is going to end up turning me into a libertarian...

Same here. I'm in VA often anyway, so I save all my errands for when I am.

Can you post the info?

Rolling it back just before delta hit was a huge mistake. Just calm down, it's not a hardship. The more this transmits, the more we have a worse variant that keeps us from living freely.

Are kids even getting sick and transmitting it? There have been 4 cases in our school of 700 kids and none were transmitted in school.

Is it a mask "mandate" if it's barely enforced, especially when it comes to indoor dining and drinking? It's more like a mask "suggestion."
