Costco dog food versus nutrasource or science hills, or any other brand…

Need to cut down costs all around, thinking of switching to Costco dog food. Anyone know who their brand is made by? I assume it’s a private label if a bigger company. Thanks.

No clue, but my dog does well on it, fwiw.

Same. Our current and previous dogs have done very well on it also.

It is probably just a repackaged version of some other existing brand. See if you can find out what it is.

My dog has done well on it too. It’s high quality meat based rather than mostly cornmeal in cheaper brands.

Kirkland is made by Diamond Pet Food who also makes some other more “boutique” brands like Taste of the Wild and Solid Gold. I don’t like having to buy such a large quantity of food at once but it seems a reasonably good quality food.

I fed my dog the salmon Kirkland one and he seemed to do well on it, but the vet instructed me to switch because it was grain free, which their practice doesn’t recommend.

This. It's a good quality dog food for the price.

FYI, lately Costco has also had Blue Buffalo recently. It's not as cheap as their brand but was $10 off this week. I think it was about $40 for 38 lbs bag.

I'm begging someone out there to provide any tricks on keeping a Costco sized amount of food fresh for 6+ months. I couldn't resist the deal but this is going to last a looooon time.

Anything storage ideas beyond fill up a day-to-day container and stash the rest in a closet? FWIW I heard the bag itself is supposed to be better than a separate container. Thank you!

We bought a “Gamma Vault”. It is airtight and food grade. I believe we bought it at Costco a long time ago. We love it!

It's good quality dog food for the price. My family has show dogs (including champions) and agility competitor dogs and they use Costco dog food (both the dry stuff and the canned stuff).

People always remarked on our dogs' coats, fitness, and their health (the two longest-lived dogs of their breed that the vet had ever seen were both our dogs) and we didn't do anything special...just the Costco dog food.

You don't need to do a day-to-day container...you can keep like 10 days' worth in a smaller container for feeding. Give one of your kids the chore of refilling the smaller container.

We have something like this in the laundry room closet (which is where the dog eats):

The best thing to do if you have one of these is to keep the dog food in there, but still in its bag. Dog food bags are made with a special lining that helps keep the food fresh. This way you are getting the benefits of both the bag lining AND the airtight container.
