Best place for spice rack?

Anonymous
DH and I are remodeling our kitchen and the topic of spice racks came up. We love cooking and have tons of spices. Our spice rack currently is affixed to the back of our pantry door.

DH suggested this idea as a pull out drawer adjacent to the range cooktop:

there's also the pull out drawer approach:

Any recommendations?

We have the top option next to the range top. I like it.

Depends upon space. Drawers are great but take up more space than pullouts.

That’s a horrible place to keep your spices. You don’t want them that close to heat.

The drawer is amazing in theory, but might not be as flexible if you don't have 100% uniform spice bottles. I've had pull-outs in two kitchens and liked them a lot. The one in my last house was next to my range and counter-height (as PP mentioned, next to the range is probably not the best temperature-wise, but it was our only option in a tight space). My current one is fridge-height and next to my fridge. I think the pull out is much better than in the pantry, unless you have a great lazy susan or stepped type setup.

We are doing the drawer for our spices in our current kitchen reno. We are going to buy spice bottles so that they are all in the same size bottle. I like being able to see all the spices without having to bend over and find them in the first option.

We have option 1 and I like it very much. It fits bottles of various sizes.

We have all of our small to medium sized spices in a drawer next to the stove. Large spice containers in the cabinet above the drawer.

I don’t like picture 1 because I don’t want to kneel down to reach my spices. Picture 2 looks good in terms of convenience, but I’d be concerned about heat.

We have a wide drawer for dry small spices and a pullout for the larger bottles/containers and oils. So check out the sizes of what you have/use and go from there.

We have Option 1, but it's not next to the stove/oven. The heat near the spices would be bad for them.

Mine are in an upper cabinet shelf, on a step like shelf (see link below) 4 rows (3 on the step shelf, 1 in front), accommodates everything at arms length, no bending required.
