I did a wire transfer on Monday (received notice on Monday that transfer was complete). Money still is not in account it was wired to. I feel like it should be somewhat instantaneous (hence the wire, vs. other means). Should I be freaking out, or is this normal? |
It depends. What country is the wire going to? Are there intermediary banks? The receiving bank could take days to verify the transaction details before posting the funds. |
Domestic to domestic. It seems like it should be there by now. |
It should be there. The receiving bank probably just hasn’t applied it to the acct yet. |
Most financial institutions have SLAs prominently displayed. Maybe go their web site instead of DCUM? Also, what good does it do you if everyone here says "it should be there"? You still need to call them. |
I did a domestic wire last week and it took maybe an hour or two? It should at least show up as a pending transaction in the receiving account. Have you verified the numbers on the transfer?
I would call your bank and ask to speak with treasury management - that's the department that knows the most about wires at our bank. |
Looking for real-life experience here. I know how to use Google. |
Are you talking about an ACH then? Wire transfers usually mean a transfer done using a SWIFT code. Domestic transfers are usually done using the bank's ABA numbers. ACH may happen the next day or take 3 days. It depends. |
No, its a wire transfer. Wire transfer fee and all. |
You've now spent more time on DCUM than it would have taken to call the bank and ask! |
My wire was immediate--even though it was like 3 minutes before the banks close for the day
call bank ASAP |
No, actually calling a bank, getting a real person, and then getting transferred to the "right" real person can take hours. And at the time, made NO SENSE if this is a normal amount of time for these things to take. Yet you have been on just as much, and have taken the time to respond, with absolutely no usable information. |
Many banks only do them at specific times (e.g., 10:00 am and 3:00 pm), so, if you miss the last one of the day, it may be the next day before it goes through. It’s usually less than 24 hours, though I did have one take longer, that I recall. I do think banks “play the float,” though, so it can take longer than you would think. |
I’d call the person you gave the wiring instructions to and see if they can check it out. Not to freak you out, but there were cases of fraud back a few years ago. People in real estate transactions were getting fake wiring instructions. That’s why most places won’t let you send wiring instructions by email. |
Same day at most. Should be immediate. |
