My kid plays travel soccer but i didn't realize that I would actually have to travel so

I'm mad about it.

He has a point that travel for more than 50 miles for a league game for anybody younger than U13 is a massive waste of time.

There's a reason why the U9-U11 clubs may sometimes be 4-5 teams deep, plenty of kids in the area doing travel soccer.

Should I start the "I'm so defensive about the choices I make for travel soccer that I oversimplify everyone else's arguments and assume their motives, all having little to do with my child's needs but all to do with some latent insecurity that makes me need to feel superior" thread, or shall we move on with our lives?

Wait...so you didn't know that travel soccer involves travel?

I love the weekends I spent with my kids traveling for sports. Some of the best times.

This is usually spelled out in the contract, is it not?

There are 5 leagues in DC area and only 1 requires kids younger than 11 to travel more than 50 miles, but DC youth soccer is broken....

Which league is that?

That would be CCL, and that is rumored to change in the coming years.

This is a anonymous public forum, it's basically made for complaining. If we could identify the other people here, I'm sure the most adamant complainers are usually the quietest at the club.

This is why we like PPA -- almost all games are at the Soccerplex in Germantown. It's not a bad drive -- usually about 25 minutes from NW DC on Rt 270. Other travel-level teams come to the Soccerplex as there are so many fields there. Granted, we don't play many Virginia teams -- most teams are from Montgomery County and DC, but those two areas have a large # of travel teams - more than enough for a high level of play.

And at U9-U12 the supposed level of competition isn't particularly important either.

So I'm aboard the wagon that I shouldn't have to travel too far for a game. But I also don't want the same drive every Sunday, I like going to different places for DS game. As a family we usually stick around the area(not always) and explore different parts of another county I otherwise would never have gone to.

The biggest advantage to a model like CCL is not the supposed level of competition but the club to club scheduling. If you have multiple kids playing, and they can all play on the CCL team at their club, then scheduling is sooooo much easier. Even with the travel just having all the kids at the same place for all the games is a huge advantage and selling point.

NO. It's not!! Unless you have twins in the same team.

I had two kids (2.5 years apart) both in CCL. Games were multiple hours apart. Often not at the same place.

If kid A has an 8 am game I'm not hanging out until the 4pm game.

I don't know who is spread in this fallacy.

My U9 and U12 CCL kids games did not line up.
