New bakery offers a few GFCF and egg free options

I know this sounds like an ad, but my only connection to this bakery is that I went there the other day and had my allergic child try a GF, Vegan (dairy and egg free too) cupcake and wow was it a hit! The bakery is called Fluffy Thoughts and it's in McLean. I was so happy to find out they would offer a few allergic child friendly options. We give them 2 HUGE thumbs up. Delicious!

Now keep in mind this is a regular bakery. If your child has life threatening food allergies this is not an option. I asked a lot of questions and I think I was told they use a separate bowl for the GFCF egg free stuff, but I am sure there is still the risk of getting traces of allergens. Also, they do (if I recall correctly) use soy milk and coconut in the GFCF vegan treats which are also allergens. It seems like a great option for those of us dealing with more minor allergies in our kiddos.

Plus, I must admit I have a special place in my heart for small business. As much as I enjoy the occasional coffee from Starbucks, it's so refreshing to see a bakery with ties to the area. I think it adds character and charm.

Op again...thought I would just share my dream..wouldn't it be incredible if somebody opened an allergy friendly bakery??

You can't eliminate all allergens, but you could create plenty of treats without nuts, gluten, dairy and even eggs. Apparently a few of these types of places are sprouting up around the country. Wish one would come to the DC metro area! There certainly is a market IMO.

I'm thrilled to hear this. After returning from spring break I have been fantasizng about people opening up GFCF hotels and restaurants. I felt awful each morning at breakfast at our all inclusive hotel as I pulled out a piece of GF toast for my DD. Our whole society is really geared towards gluten and dairy. Its not like this in other countries!
