How do I dress for a club?

Anonymous
I haven't been to a club since kids (over 3 years) and I've gotten roped in (albeit voluntarily) to a "clubby" night out next weekend. What can I wear that doesn't scream 30-something yr old mom? I'm tall and fairly thin, but I've got nursing boobs that I'm self-conscious about so I need to keep things covered up there, so cute little tanks are out. What do people wear to clubs these days?

skinny jeans, spring sandal/heels (wooden high heeled "clogs" are cute), cute but not tight top. Try Arden B or Express.

Arden B's clothes look slutty

I thought you meant a country club and that the pp was f'ing with you!

I have know idea what to wear to a real club! Have fun though!

PP was right but don't go to Arden B or Express - that's for people in their 20s. Skinny/straight leg jeans, strappy heels, and a "going out" top. Work the boobs while you have them!

Not the OP -- In a lot of replies to posts like these I see "cute top" or "great top" or something. I have no idea what that means anymore. Any specifics available or links? Particularly like the OP says that aren't tanks or spaghetti straps that so many of us in our 30s and 40s don't want to wear.

I'm the 9:43 poster. I guess that's why I'm confused. And the OP mentioned it also. Neither of the tops in the link above would be a good choice for me. Both I and the OP specifically said that we wouldn't want to do little straps. But the examples always seem to look like the above links. I'm not sure what other than a tank top or smaller top might be considered a good option. Is there really nothing that is a good top or cute top that doesn't require you to use a strappless bra or no bra?

sorry pp here the kimono top in the middle is what I am referring to.

I would go for a Milly or Nanette Lepore top. If you can't do skinny jeans, don't. Just wear black pants or skirt. Maybe not as cool as good jeans but better than bad jeans or good jeans on wrong body.

OP here, thanks so much for all the advice! I'm narrowing in on ideas now, before I was completely clueless.

I don't own skinny jeans, and I'm wondering if I could find a pair that is on the cheaper side since I probably won't wear them again (or very rarely). I *think* I can pull off skinny jeans, although they are a little out of my comfort zone. I'm 5'9 and normally 128lb, but I'm carrying 3 extra lb of what I like to call "nursing weight" that is all in my hips. Or maybe it is a trend that a 38-year old should just skip?

I've got until Saturday to figure this out!

instead of true skinny jeans, try a straight leg jean that is cut close. I don't think anyone would throw you out for wearing a boot cut jean that fits well either. Dark wash in something that flatters your figure is better than being trendy and in something unflattering.
