ACPS: Campagna Center After School Program - How do get in? Good experience?

Anonymous
Hi, new parent to ACPS in need of after school care. I didn't look into Campagna before b/c I was told there was a Waitlist. I have completed their online request form, but have not heard anything back. Attempted to call, but no one is answering. How do you find out if there is space available at your school? How are the waitlists/registration handled? Also, have families had a good experience?

Thanks for your help!

My son was in it from K-5. The program was good, but the people at the main office were terrible about responding to calls and emails. I used to go to the main office personally with questions, but I'm guessing you can't do that during COVID.

I’ve had a good experience at the school and also with the staff at headquarters. What school are you in? Experiences may vary. There has been a lot of staff turnover in the last year, but usually there isn’t much. I like that the ratios are lower than rec (MUCH lower). My moderately special needs kiddo does well there.

Try Chanel at 703-224-2359.

I am the PP. I should have been more clear that we, too, were very happy with the staff at the schools (vs. headquarters).

OP here. We are at John Adams. Would love to know if there is space available as there isn't bus transportation to the rec programs right now.

I finally got in contact with someone that works for Campagna at John Adams. She says there is space available and that once you complete your registration paperwork there is about a 1-2 day turnaround for HQ to process your information. I explained that I completed the online waitlist form last week, called several times, and haven't heard anything back. She told me that she would pass my name along to the registrar, but I am questioning if this will actually go somewhere or not since it has been impossible to reach them. I really need to nail down our after school care --- really hoping this works out, but at this point, I am feeling skeptical. Any insight or experiences to share?

Did you call the person above (Chanel)? I’ve never found our difficult to get a return call there and have two in after care plus have done summer programs. It’s a nonprofit so they run a little lean but are helpful.

I would call the school specific center director. On their website, they have the name and contact of the director. They are much more responsive than Randy Gore and Chanel at Campagna HQ. We have a kindergartener and third grader. Our experience has been very positive. Our kids love Campagna. Plus 100% of the staff had to be vaccinated by July.

Thanks to those have responded. I have been in contact with the Campagna Director at the school. She verified that there is space available, but she is also have difficulty reaching the person responsible for registration (Grace Shelton). I keep leaving voicemails (Chanel/Randy) and sending emails; they are going to be so annoyed by me, but I desperately need quality after school care!!

I would reach out to your school principal and ask for help. Let her that you've been trying to get placed in the campaigna but no one will get back to you.

Did you submit an application online? We're at a different school but I thought that was all we did.

Sorry I see that you submitted an online request. I wouldn't contact your principal but would contact the site director again. The site director should be able to register you.

They may not be in the office. Try Grace Shelton via email. She has been responsive to me in the past (Randy Gore has not). gshelton@campagnacenter.org

If they program is this disorganized at the top I would worry about how well they keep track of other things like staff background checks
