| Does anyone have a friend or relative who has lived at either Grand Oaks (next to Sibley) or Sunrise on Connecticut Avenue in DC? If so, I would appreciate any insight you might have on the facility, and in particular the quality of care. |

| A friend’s mom is at Sunrise on Connecticut and the mom is pretty happy and family thinks she is well cared for. She is in assisted living. |

We had a reasonably good experience with Grand Oaks. My mom was there for two years. She died right before the pandemic.
I think the staff is generally very good. But you need to understand what you are buying. They are not a nursing home. My understanding is that they cannot by law provide more than 40 hours per week of care. So if and when your relative needs more care you will need to purchase that separately from an agency. That is why many residents at Grand Oaks have outside aids. If you think Grand Oaks itself is expensive, imagine adding to that $3,500 per week for 24/7 aids. But I did think that the expertise and oversight, and day to day care, at Grand Oaks was excellent and my mom was comfortable, safe and happy there. |

I think they are both assisted living rather than independent living. I’ve been surprised looking at places for my mother what the mix is - some have all 3, some 2 and some just 1. And different approaches in terms of rent vs buy, and how you move from one to another. We ended up not looking at sunrise because we wanted independent first.
Have you looked at Ingleside? I liked that one. |
