Duval Aerospace Engineering & Aviation Tech Program

Looking for parents of current or recent students and how you liked the program and school. My DS was accepted and still debating if he will attend.
TIA !!

I know I am not who are looking to respond -- My kids picked SciTech at ERHS instead of Aerospace at DuVal mostly because they had never had an interest in aerospace. My impression of the program at DuVal is that it is a very good program housed in a school with a general population with a lot of problems so your kid would see some crazy behavior. Haven't they had to deal with a lot of arson? To be fair, at ERHS, there was a stabbing in the cafeteria not too long ago and lots of gunshots at the apartments across the street that force the school to go into lockdown often. So, there's always something but I think these programs, and the Center for the Visual and Performing Arts at Suitland, are worth it.

I hope a parent of kid at DuVal replies. Good luck!

Any additional feedback? Considering a home zoned for Duval.

I don’t have a child in the school but know they have an issue with administration and staff turnover.

Just a side note. I work at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center down the street from Duval. The one thing I can say about both Duval and ERHS is that NASA employees are very interactive with students and groups from both schools. Pre-pandemic, I saw many groups from both schools on center for various tours and programs. They are typically well represented in our summer internship programs and I know a number of colleagues who have been presenters, guests and judges for events at both schools over the years.

So, I would guess that both schools have access to more resources than other high schools in the rest of the county when it comes to science, tech, engineering and aerospace.
