CAT test for math and reading - timed or untimed?

Anonymous
DS is currently in 3rd grade and I think he will do fine on a standardized test. I just don't want it to be stressful since it's only for proof that we are doing okay with homeschool. I can just used the untimed option, right? Are there any downsides for untimed?

Which state are you in? I'm in Virginia, and it seems people do either depending on which they feel is most appropriate for their child's needs. I just last week used the timed version for my kids because I didn't think they had any particular need for the untimed, and I want them to have some experience taking timed standardized tests. Plus honestly I didn't want it to drag on forever! It was no big deal for them, and they both did great.

We’re doing Stanford online which is untimed for all grades. However, this is for a 4th grader with (many) bad associations. Added bonus that we get the scores in two days, and I don’t have to send anything back (unlike the Iowa for K).
