Best Private School for SN Kids

Anonymous
This has probably been posted in the past, so I apologize up front.

We are considering moving to private school, but not sure where to begin our search. DS is mild/moderate ADHD and processing issues as well. No spectrum or PDD.
For those with SN kids in private, please share the name of the school and why you think it's a great fit for your child. My DS seems to fall in "no-mans-land" with respect to privates. Not needy enough for Deiner, but not quite McLean material either.

TIA

Where do you live? Lab takes kids with more special needs than McLean and I think they definitely work with ADHD.

OP here - Have applied to Lab, have yet to hear back...so I am discouraged of course. McLean did not admit him.

Is your child too old for Maddux?

Does public school with a really good IEP not work? We hired an education consultant and it helped a lot to develop a solid IEP, that has been immensely helpful.

Too old for Maddux. Really a "goldielocks" case. Too much of this, not enough of that...

We are in a great MoCo public right now. Going to have our first IEP meeting next week. We have not seen an educational consultant, but he has had his wisc and wppsi as well as an assessment from Kennedy Krieger and an OT.
All concur on the ADHD front, as well as some possible processing.

Would you suggest we see a consultant?

PP here: Indeed I would, although expensive (but cheaper than private school) this person can help you slidge through all the reports, talk with your private providors, teachers etc, and then put together what they think the child should be getting through the school, and then attend the IEP meeting with you to advocate the execution of what your child needs in an IEP. These meeting are really intimidating - 5-10 professional educators and you the parents in the room.

Okay - so I guess I need names of consultants!
Who did you use?

Laura Solomon knows DC well and we used her. We were also referred to Michelle Davis of Academic Behavior Consultants

would you mind sharing costs?

Look into the Katherine Thomas School in Rockville, MD. Suzy Keith Blattner is a consultant in Kensington, MD that may be able to help you sort through the choices.

Funny you should ask. Wasn't there just a question on this board about families trying to get similar information on publics with just a handful of responses? The SN boards tend to friendly, but apparently don't have a lot of traffic.

I second the recommendation for Suzie Blattner. It really helps to have the advice of a pro in this sort of situation.

I thought that Katherine Thomas was for children with more severe needs?
Thanks for Suzie's name. My DS used to go to ITS for OT. I did not realize that they had a consultant on board. Good to know!
