Spin-off: K Boys with No Connections/Priorities

I know some years are tougher for one sex or the other and am wondering if this year was a tough year for K boys. We did not get shut out and got one of our top choices but were very surprised at some WLs we got despite high WPSII, excellent recs, top school and good playdate and fairly non-pain-in-the-tail parents (), albeit not wealthy or connected.

Anyone else left scratching their head?
