APS - when do middle school course selections occur?

Minor question in the big picture of re-opening, but my rising 6th grader asked and I don't know the answer. When do families begin selections of math pathway and electives? DC didn't get into HB and is now more excited about the prospect of our neighborhood middle school. Obviously the spring visit won't occur, but has anyone heard what might be in the works this spring?

I think the timing is a bit messed up now. Last year the middle schools did information nights in January and distributed the forms then. I know that for current middle school kids, they just got the forms on-line this week. (I have a rising 7th grader.)

I also have a rising 6th grader, and realized that I should have watched the middle school’s academic information night, but it wasn’t on my radar (thanks, elementary school admins!)

I plan to see if it was recorded and watch as we await further instructions.

We are zoned Swanson and were able to watch both it and the HB videos online. I assume the others are recorded as well.

If you have a rising 6th grader, I'd suggest going to the middle school's home page and seeing if they've posted the recordings. They have posted the presentations and recordings for the different grades on Swanson's home page.

NP here. We are planning to move to the area this summer. What can I do now to get the ball rolling, although we obviously can’t enroll yet?

Do you know where you will be living?

Trust me, the counselors will make sure your kids won't miss the deadline! They will have meetings together as a class first about the choices before they fill out the forms.

There's honestly very little you have to choose so not to stress. Language or not; chorus or not. etc. Go to the homepage for your new MS and there will be info there. All of the "welcome to 6th grade" nights are virtual this year and recorded so you and your child can watch together. Next year will be interesting because there will be 6th and 7th graders that have never been in the school before!
