Technical question about Fire TV/HBO Max

Anonymous
We have a Fire TV set. We also have cable because of an older tv in another room. We have HBO as part of our cable package. We can go to live tv on the Fire TV to watch regular HBO. Now our HBO subscription comes with HBO Max. We can watch it on a laptop or phone. But Amazon wants us to buy a separate subscription to watch HBO Max on the Fire TV set.

Is there a way to either access HBO Max through the wimpy browser on a Fire TV OR hook up our laptop to the Fire Tv so we can get a bigger screen for first run 2021 movies on HBO Max?

You cannot add the HBO Max app to your TV like any other app? You could try screen casting the webpage to the TV.

There is not an option to do so without paying $15 a month. We already pay Verizon for HBO (and Max is included).

Can you tell me how to screencast?

I guess I’m not following. I use a Firestick and downloaded the HBO Max app to my Firestick. I then logged into the app using my HBO credentials. When you log in with your HBO credentials you get a pop up saying you still have to pay?

First, sign into your Verizon account on your computer. Then, uninstall and reinstall the HBO Max app on the Fire TV. When you try to authorize in the app, does it give you a message on the TV screen telling you to go to hbomax.com/tvsignin, or something like that? If not, you're choosing the wrong option on the app.

Otherwise, go to hbomax.com/tvsignin (or whatever it says) on the computer that's signed into your Verizon account. It should ask you to choose your TV provider. When you choose the right one, which would be FIOS or Verizon, the authorization process should complete, and you'll be ready to watch HBO Max on the Fire TV. No need to screencast or mirror.

I have HBO on my Xfinity account, and I watch HBO Max on my Fire TV Stick using Xfinity credentials without any extra payment.

Yes

You need to contact Amazon. From the HBO Max page, the Fire Tv is a supported device. You download the app, select the provider (verizon) and use your login credentials. You might also want to check that your FireTV’s software is up to date.

PP here. Sorry, you didn't say your cable is FIOS or Verizon, did you? Pick whatever your cable provider is.

Thank you all. It took an Amazon tech 10 min, but now we can log in with Verizon. There was a software glitch.
