DSM revisions and SPD - anyone seen it?

Anonymous
When DS was diagnosed with SPD almost 2 years ago, I thought I'd read (or been told) that SPD isn't officially recognized as a disorder in the DSM but that "they" were working on it. I recently saw that the DSM is being revised for the first time since like 1994. I went to the website but didn't see anything related to SPD. Am I confused? Anyone know anything about it getting officially classified as a real, legitimate disorder?

I think OT's hope it will be recognized but doctors sill don't recognize it.

no specific knowledge, but I am not surprised it hasn't been included as of yet -- I think there are variety of issues, but one of them is definitional - everyone has sensory "issues" of one kind of another, so even if you accept that, for some people, they are significant enough to become problematic, figuring out where to draw the line with respect to what is within the range of normal and what is a disorder is tricky and there's no broad agreement about it

also, I think many physicians are still skeptical about SPD, or at least about the treatment protocol involving OT (just to be clear, I'm not personally expressing skepticism, it's just something I've researched because of concerns about my son) and whether it's effectiveness has been verified through peer reviewed studies

Whether or not it happens, it's still probably at least a couple of years away:
