Best cell phone family plan?

We are off-contract with Verizon with two lines and two cell phones. We need to replace the two iPhones (really, they are old and falling apart), we want to add an additional line and phone for our tween. I had Sprint during the Nokia brick-phone era. It was fine although reception was not as good as Verizon. Maybe that has changed? Probably. Since were off contract, it’s a good time to consider other providers. Any advice or recommendations? Cautionary tales? Thanks.
