2nd grade Gifted and Talented Designation and notification letter

Anonymous
The gifted and talented screening was not given at our school for the 2nd graders this year because we transitioned to distance learning before it was given. One of our friends mentioned they saw an announcement on their school's website that all 2nd graders would be reviewed by the central office without using the tests and parents will receive notification of gifted and talented status by mail around the end of August. Has anyone else know of how 2nd graders are being reviewed if they haven't taken inview this year?

Notice on school website says: "Due to the extended emergency school closure for the remainder of the school year, the GT identification process for the 2019-2020 school year has transitioned from a school based to a central office based process. Parent letters indicating the decision made by the central office regarding gifted and talented identification will be mailed late August 2020. "

They would still be at their home school for 3rd grade anyway. They don’t go to a center until 4th grade in mcps. In theory the DL is supposed to allow for different levels of learning this fall. Guess we’ll see.

Interesting. We were at Rosemary Hills and the principal said at the end of the year that the assessment would take place in 3rd grade. Haven’t heard anything since

This is what my school reported also.

It doesn't really mean anything. The test is required by the state. Something like 20%+ of the kids get these letters.

+1 the test in second grade is meaningless.
