Gizmo watch (Verizon)?

Any experience with the Verizon Gizmo watch, by chance? We would like to be able to contact/track our 10 year old son, who likes to bike around the neighborhood. I've read reviews on Verizon, but would love to get parent input outside of the Verizon website. We are also considering just going to an Apple Watch, but I assume they are more delicate by comparison and not great for a boy who likes to dig in the dirt, ride bikes and scooters, etc., etc.

We got one for our 10yr old too, highly recommend it. Gives you great piece of mind and it’s nice being able to contact him.

Thanks! I find their information confusing so I'm going to ask you, how does it work - do you have have a phone that it's paired with?

We do have an extra android phone on the Verizon system (because we got a plan that gave us an extra line). Do you also pay extra for the watch so that it has cellular service as well?

The watch has a phone number. It can make and receive calls only to pre-approved phone numbers. These numbers do not need to be on verizon. You are limited to 20 numbers. The watch can send preset texts or voice messages to those 20 numbers also, but you can only access the texts on an app that is installed on your phone. You can send any text you want, but you have to do it from the app. This adds a layer of security since your kid can only contact people you have approved.

The plan costs $15 a month and needs to be linked to another verizon account. The functionality of the watch is pretty limited in that there is no web browser or youtube so there is no data limit on the plan and your child cannot incur excess data charges.
