| For the love of god, someone please help me! The only answers I can find online pertain to Zoom on a regular computer. I’ve looked through all the settings and just can’t find anything. |
| Speaker view instead of gallery view |
I know how to do that, but I need to know how to pin a specific speaker so that if someone else starts talking, the screen stays on the pinned person. |
| We "mute all" except the speaker. |
+1. Or just leave in gallery view and look at the speaker |
| Put your cursor on their pic. There should be three little dots that appear in the upper right hand corner of their pic. Click that and you should get a "Pin" option, I do it all the time for livestream workout classes. |
| It’s called “spotlight” , Which you can do with a group of 3 or more. I am not sure if it’s a feature on the free version but is definitely available on the $15 per month version. From the list of participants you select their name and choose “pin” or “spotlight”, it is described more fully on the zoom support site. |
OP here. I’m specifically asking how to “pin” someone, because when my kid’s classmates unmute themselves and start talking, the speaker view switches from the teacher to the talking kid, and then we can’t view whatever lesson is being shown. I don’t control whether these kids are muted or not. |
You do this on an iPad? |
PP here. Misunderstood and thought you were the meeting host. If it is a huge problem perhaps you could bring it to the teachers attention and ask him or her to spotlight themselves, or mute the other participants unless called on, which is what my kids’ teachers do. I imagine you can’t be the only one having the issue in the class if kids are speaking out of turn. |

Okay, I played around with this. I started a meeting on the iPad and connected my laptop to the meeting (trying to see if there were more controls avialable to the meeting coordinator). [...] and Pin were options on the laptop version, but I went through all of the controls and drop downs and did not see any way to pin from the iPad. We only have the free version, so I have no idea if there are more options available if you have a paid version.
Sorry, OP. |
Wow, thank you so much PP! I really appreciate it. At least now I can stop driving myself crazy looking for that setting
|
| I think you can double tap on their video and it will pin them. However, if a screen is being shared, that will disappear from your view. |
| Double click on said participant to pin them. |

Glad to find these comments because searching the Zoom site didn't find it. What worked for me tonight for what I was looking for (as a participant pinning the video of another participant, not a meeting host) was to double tap with my finger on the gallery view image of that person, then a little menu with Chat and Pin as options open up, tap on Pin, and then they're pinned. Laptop interface is entirely different.
