My DS is moving from midi to defense so looking for input on pros/cons on different shafts on the market beyond all the marketing hype. |
What age, how long has he played and what skill level is your son (rec lacrosse, travel)? |
middle-schooler who has played lacrosse for 5 years. |
I would not worry about the brand of shaft at that age. It will not make that much of a difference. The most important thing you can do is cut the shaft down to an appropriate size. If he is already 5'8" or so, then a full length stick may be okay. Any shorter than that, I would recommend cutting it down to your son's height. |
full length stick and don't cut it unless the kid isn't going to grow past 5'10. plus carbon fiber which will be strong but lighter than alloys and metals. |
Depending on how big he is, he could use full size shaft or cut it down to slightly above his height wearing a helmet (only if you didn't spend tons of $$ on it). Light and durable. |
OP- so is carbon shafts the best way to go from a durability/dents and weight perspective? |
|
Our son, 6'3" uses a d-pole and generally they haven't bent but they have snapped in half. This didn't occur until HS and has only happened once. He has broken a few of his opponents though. The material didn't seem to matter.. |
I really thought this thread was about something else. I am glad I read it before reporting it! |
I prefer metal - it might bend but won't break like carbon ones will (not to say it's impossible, but more unlikely in MS). STX Hammer 700 is a middle of the road dshaft, won't break the bank if you cut it. |
