Current SGF Donor Egg, do I need a new clinic?

Anonymous
I’ve been with SGF for over a year. I was 38 when we started and we went straight to Donor egg due to my diagnosis (I don’t want to debate that in this discussion, I know that is controversial for many).
We opted for the shared risk and 3:1 shared donor program. We ended up with only 2 PGS normal embryos and while it met their minimum it was much less than what I know some others have received. Our first FET failed, I had to push and beg for an ERA and ReCeptivaDX test and glad we did my ERA showed non-responsive.

We finally transferred our last, and I’m currently having a miscarriage at 7 weeks with a donor egg PGS tested embryo (it feels so cold to say it like that).
My husband is talking about spending even more money to move to the 2:1 shared donor program but I can’t help to think something is off. I feel helpless in that I don’t see many options for donor egg and I’m technically in NOVA. I can tell most people don’t love SGF and I can say they have caused a lot of distress this past year. I love my local office staff but HQ needs to be overhauled.

I’ve read through many of the posts on DE here and I still feel confused. I fear that the lab or embryologist at SGF are awful or something else is going on they aren’t willing to look at. We were originally allocated 8 eggs and 5 fertilized, I felt that was a bit low for no known MFI and a donor egg. We had absolutely no day 5 embryos, lost 1 at day 7 and froze 4 and sent them for PGS testing. Only two were PGS normal.

I know my doctor well enough he will just say this stuff happens, but looking at these stats it just doesn’t add up. Best case only 1 of our embryos would of been viable and I just happen to lose that due to my non-receptive status at time of transfer? My gut just says something doesn’t seem right.

I’ve seen CCRM mentioned but it looks like any option I go with I would still monitor at SGF? Can anyone provide thoughts or insight? And what other clinics would you consider. The money back guarantee was my safety net, but I feel like I’ve cost our family so much pain.

How about Dominion Fertility? I had a good experience when I switched there after everything about the GW clinic was wrong for me. I don't have experience with donor egg, but I found that feeling secure and trusting my clinic was a godsend after the stress I endured as a GW patient.

We did frozen donor egg at SG and our RE insisted on us picking a proven donor, that is a donor with a record of successful donor pregnancies. It still took two transfers to succeed. I don't know if you can do the same for fresh donors but it might be worth asking.

I’m so sorry, OP. Miscarrying a PGS normal donor embryo just seems like it should be impossible.

Has your DH looked into sperm fragmentation issues? Did you do ICSI/PICSI?

Do you have any autoimmune or other health issues that could be making it hard to carry a pregnancy?

Consider frozen. You at least know what you’re getting. At least that was my thinking when I was straight to donor egg.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'd definitely make sure there's nothing else that could've been responsible for your miscarriage other than bad luck. I personally had success from Shady Grove, but I know from hearing other stories, it doesn't sound like they dig too deep in looking for other issues affecting pregnancy (especially immune). I wouldn't be concerned with their lab, however. Overall, their SART scores are pretty high, especially considering they tend to only allowed single embryo transfers. I also would say a known successful donor would be good for peace of mind.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We didn't do PGS testing but I miscarried two donor transfers in a row and it was so hard. For DC1 it took two donor-egg transfers to be successful. For DC2 it took 4 transfers (2 miscarriages, 1 failed implantation, 1 success). We did two batches of frozen eggs with RBA for our 2 children. Before moving to RBA we were going to use GIVF (they kicked us out due to my diagnosis). But back in 2016 GIVF had a pretty good frozen egg bank selection with adult photos and I think a 2- day 5 embryo guarantee similar to RBA . If you are considering changing clinics I would look at GIVF.

We did shared risk and 2:1 shared DE at SGF. Success on first try. 24 year old donor. 15 eggs. 3 viable embryos. Fresh not frozen. Personally I would stick with SGF. They have a better and larger donor pool than other clinics and now that you’ve been thru it once you can move more quickly and be more strategic in your selection.
