Is Zika still a risk?

Anonymous
I've been TTC for a year and avoiding all countries with a risk of Zika. We're thinking of going to Laos in a few months, as I'm still not pregnant. Anyone heard any updates about Zika? I saw a tropical medicine doc 2 years back about it, but I'm wondering if things have changed since then.

Your OBGYN will have more guidance on this, but likely they would ask you to refrain from trying for 6 months after you go to a Zika area.

I understand it's annoying, and it took me 2.5 years to conceive. We had to change travel plans multiple times. BUT. At the end of the day, I am grateful that we didn't take any risks.

Yes, still a risk. Go to cdc.gov for latest updates. The wait is 8 weeks from your return of a Zika location to attempt pregnancy (for female) and 3 month wait (for male).
