OPK for dummies?

Anonymous
I'm new to this and trying to figure out how to use OPKs, but reading some of this stuff feels like reading a foreign language! Is there a short explainer I can read on what this sticks are and how to use them?

Pee on a stick once a day starting approximately after your period. The day the stick reads positive, you will ovulate within the next 12-36 hours.

That would be the short version, I think.

Got it, thanks.

Is there any reason not to start doing it immediately after going off the pill? Any reason to wait a cycle?

Also, is this the kind of thing that one should do at the same time every day?

Thank you!

As far as I know, no reason not to start as soon as you go off the pill -- I tried some other tracking first but OPKs were my most reliable option in the end. (I suck at temping and don't get cervical mucus it turns out...)

Check your OPK pack for whether you need to do it at the same time every day. I needed a more exact than daily estimate, so I did once a day until about 3 days before I expected to be ovulating and then did it a couple times a day, which worked for the ClearBlue one I used. The month before I experimented with a CVS brand one that claimed to want first morning urine and got confusing/ambiguous results.
