How do I transfer videos from my iphone to my computer?

Anonymous
My iphone storage is almost full (thanks apple!), so I'm trying to free it up by moving the videos off of my phone. However, when I try to import them onto my computer, my computer can't find them. I'm thinking that this may be because the phone has the videos in the cloud rather than on the phone. So Wtf do I do now? I want the videos, I don't want them on the phone, and I don't want to pay Apple for icloud services - I just want to transfer them off the phone! It really shouldn't be this hard! (Thanks, apple)

why the (thanks apple) about your storage being full. stop recording everything, or buy a bigger phone. not apples fault

email it to yourself is easy. but will chew up your data.

plug your iphone into your computer. do not load up itunes. unlock your phone. go to the windows file explorer
under "This PC" you will see an ICON for iphone double click until you get to a directory that says DCIM double click that directory and then you will see several other directories in my case is 104apple, 105apple, 106apple, 107apple the higher the folder number the more recent the information.

pretty easy... drag and drop the file you want from your phone to the computer

I set up a free dropbox account. I set it up so that my photos and videos automatically upload to dropbox whenever I am on WiFi. Then I periodically go on my computer and move stuff from the dropbox folder to other folders on my computer. I clear my dropbox account when it gets full or just before a vacation where I expect to take a lot of photos. This way, if anything happens to my phone, the dropbox is a good "backup" of my photos and videos.

It's nice because I don't have to do anything special for my phone to just backup to the dropbox account which is easily visible on my computer.

OP here,

If anyone is interested, the above won't work if the photos are in the cloud.

What you need to do is go to the phone's icloud settings and select download to device. Then, it seems to be a process where you can import to your computer a certain amount of downloaded photos, then unattach your phone and wait for it to download more onto the device, then reattach your phone back to the computer to download additional photos, then unplug and wait for the phone to download more onto the device, and keep repeating the process. This worked for me until I got to the last few videos, which for some reason my computer still can't seem to find.

Can you download them straight from the cloud to your computer? I use Google Photos which has that option.

I understand you very much since I have a similar problem quite often. The fact is that I am a beginner photographer, and the memory on my phone will fill up very quickly because of this. However, I can advise you of a life hack suggested to me by someone from YouTube how to make a video a live photo https://backlightblog.com/live-photo-to-video-or-gif. It was a salvation for me since I saved the essential frames from the video and deleted the rest, thereby freeing up space on the phone. Try this life hack, and maybe you will look differently at the organization of storage of your files in the iPhone. Good luck and I hope you resolved your problem as soon as possible.
