Router with parental controls

Anonymous
Does anybody have a modem/router they use for FIOS that provides parental controls? We’ve been renting an old one that doesn’t seem to allow parental controls so we’ve been using a Circle with it. The kids have found their way around the circle and I’m also tired of paying the rental fees.

I like the parental controls on our Google Wifi - https://store.google.com/us/product/google_wifi?hl=en-US

There's no easy way around FIOS's router rental. You basically need to use some Verizon router at some point since they use MOCA.

On my last bill/upgrade I saw I could buy a Quantum Actiontec instead of renting. https://www.amazon.com/Verizon-FiOS-Quantum-Gateway-AC1750/dp/B00QRJ8YME I don't know what parental controls are like on this router.

You could just use your existing router as a bridge to a new third party router. But that's more equipment to go wrong/debug. I did that with the old FIOS router I had that didn't support 802.11n.

FiOS ONTs can and do Ethernet for home if you convince them. My parent's house in MoCo was an early FiOS user and gets pure DHCP ethernet out to a private router. Their ONT has been upgraded at least once and continue with Ethernet. They have no router fees.

If you can convince them. Most people aren't going to be comfortable running cat5 through the house.

You only need CAT5 from the ONT to your Wifi router. Then you can mesh without wires to other locations not covered by your main wifi router without using network wires (just power).

The ONT is on the outside of the house typically. Around here anyway.

It is in my house in MoCo too. Verizon ran ethernet from the outside ONT to the other side of the house where my WiFi router is.
