| I’m considering this for my HS daughter because there are very limited options where I live. Most of the teams indicate that they have players coming from far away— how does that work for those players, logistically? I assume they aren’t coming for weeknight practices? What does a team like Skywalkers expect from an out of town kid? |
| Skywalkers expects you to show up for everything including weeknight practices. Everyone who is coming from out of state just stays in Baltimore for the summer season. For those within in 60 miles you just drive up for practice. If you think it might be more than you are willing to do then is probably is. |

I have traveled 45 minutes. Kid does HW in the car. For me it was not a big deal.
|
45 Min on weeknight would be driving from Howard Co. From N.VA would be about 2.5 hours. |
Thank you google maps.

You are expected to be at the practices. That's what you're signing up for. Contact the team, they'll let you know the expectations. Some teams are more flexible than others. It's also tough to break into a team in HS. Those kids have been playing together for years, and many teams stop open tryouts in middle school. |
| It sucks. I do it from Montgomery County and it sucks |
| But the talent and coaching is superior to what we have here |
| Thanks for the insight. Staying in Baltimore for the summer makes sense -- I was more worried about weeknight practices. I'm not sure that logistically it's even possible. I see that the rosters include girls from as far away as Tennessee and Illinois. My kid still has to go to school. We're driving distance so weekends are no problem, weeknights, we'd figure it out. |
This is true. We have friends who would pick up their daughter 5 minutes before dismissal and they usually just make it for the start of practice. Sometimes they are late. Most of the Baltimore teams practice on the West or North-West side of Baltimore, or in the upper part of the city, which adds considerably to the time. It really sucks to drive 2-2.5 hours and STILL be late. OTH the teams are very strong, the coaching is outstanding, and there is considerably less baggage and politics than here in the DMV. |
| To add another perspective, OP, we drive about an hour and we are just driving around the Beltway. So it doesn't seem that much to me to add another hour or so if the trade-off is a better team for your daughter. It isn't all year. |
| Seems crazy to me. Can your kid not just play on her high school team? |
+1 |
Daughter fully expects to play club through high school -- not sure what she would do with the free time if she didn't play so much! |
If you don't also plan to send your daughter to NDP or MCD what is the point? Kids can and will get recruited from Capital and SSSAS or BI. I would maybe wait until sophomore year or later before that it wont matter anyway. |
