low grade fever, weird poop and crazy diaper rash...call the doctor?

Anonymous
I am wondering if anyone can shed some light on this one. My DD is almost 12mos, and for the past two days has been having unusually big poops that are a little grayish in color, raging diaper rash as a result, and has been running a fever of 101 to 102. The fever went away with motrin but then popped back up tonight. She has been a little lethargic and clingy, but is eating (although not as good as usual) and playing. She doesn't seem to be teething and never had symptoms like this before with prior teeth. Any thoughts? I am thinking I am calling the doc in the morning but wanted to see what the sage moms of DCUM thought.

Thanks!!

teething does not cause fever this high, or lethargicnest. I would call my doc.

Def. call your doc, but my DD's similar symptoms last week were diagnosed as a mild case of Rotavirus. According to my ped, it's going around.

Thanks. What did your ped do to treat the rotavirus?

always call the doc in these situations. I always feel like even if they tell me to keep an eye on things for a day or two more before coming in, it's better for them to know the unusual symptoms early on, and for me to know whether or not the symptoms are consistent with what they're seeing in patients coming in.

Nothing, really. Since she only had a mild case, I just needed to pay attention to keeping her hydrated, which I'd been doing already b/c of the bizarre poops and loose bowels. More severe cases can require hospitalization, I'd dare say that if your DC has rota, it's also a mild case. When it's bad, it's reeeeeeealy bad, projectile vomiting, and all sorts of excretory misery. But I'm no MD, nor do I want to play one on TV. Hope your ped can give you answers, and fit your little one in tomorrow first thing if need be.

Sounds like a tummy bug.

Has changed her eating habits - new food perhaps?
Any recent vaccinations or reactions to a new medication?

I wouldn't think teething would cause weird poop.

Call the doc. - if anything just for a peace of mind.

My son had a rough time with teething and have really weird color/smell/texture poops for a few days (sorry if tmi) which then cause him to have the diaper rash. But every child is different, so I would probably go to the dr. too to have them check her out.
