Private & Independent Schools

I have followed the GDS thread, but am interested in information on other schools drop-off and pick-up procedures. As a working parent who plans to drop off DC in the morning when school starts, and pick her up sometime late (before 6, but during extended day, say, 5:15-ish) can I expect to sit in these carpool lines? Or do extended day parents escape this in the evenings? And what about morning drop-off? Are there strategies for minimizing wait times? Do some schools do it better than others? Thanks so much for any info.

| Morning drop off is fast if you time it right traffic-wise -- it's quicker because there's no need to match kids to cars (as with pick-up) -- just drop and go. Plus schools have a window so you can drop off early enough (e.g. 15 minutes before school) to beat the crowd. You won't have a problem with evening (beyond the commute itself) because you've already missed the afternoon rush on campus. |
Totally agree. |
| It really depends on the school. Schools in the city have very tight lanes to deal with; if you are out in the suburbs...the schools generally have bigger lots and space. |
| 11:06 here. My response was based on experience in the city. |

I have seen both good and bad. Suburbs, btw. Alot depends upon how the school has built the roads.
Old school micromanaged every detail including size of font on your carpool sign. Running yearly joke with letters from admin about how to do carpool. New school has 3-lane carpool with circular drive. No rules, no signs, totally organic. Works like a dream. Never have to wait. |
| Oooh- sign me up for "works like a dream" carpool. Where is this? Anyone know? |
