Driving w/Windows Open = Everybody Wants to Hear My Music

Anonymous
Ughhh....why???

Why is this so often the case?

Yesterday, a Maryland tagged silver Prius decided that it was worth forgoing air conditioning in favor of the natural 95-degree open air * just * so that the rest of us could hear the Arabic (?) techno the driver was listening to.
Do people not realize that they are not being cool & interesting, but annoying and obnoxious?

I am probably the most irritated when it comes to music..I loathe speakers at the beach, house parties where I can hear your bass, etc.

But a car? There is already so much other noise and it is fleeting. Doesn't bother me too much, though I'd be happy if I didn't have to hear it.

I mean this in kindness, not snark, because I have had to deal with overwhelming rage at innocuous things I can't change... try meditation.

No. They know they are being jerks and contributing to noise pollution but don’t care.

Insecure jerks.

it's possible they're just enjoying the music and the weather, and you'll hear it for MAYBE 30 seconds at a stoplight.

I'm surprised there is a difference of opinion on this.

They are clearly self-centered jerks.

I live close-in. They like to drive up and down our street doing this.

This. Of all the times that unwanted music might bother me, music from someone’s car is probably on the bottom of the list. And the guy’s AC may have been broken.

Oh, man. You must really hate me. I have a speaker on my bike, and I have been really into Ethiopian jazz lately. I do hope that others enjoy it, but even if they don't, I can't say I particularly like the noise of cars, so I guess it all balances out.

I do really enjoy, though, when I pull up next to a car and the person has the windows down and is rocking out to something completely different than whatever I am listening to. We often exchange a look and a laugh, and it makes for a pleasant interlude in my day.

So, maybe consider whether you can find a way to appreciate that someone else is having a good time, even if it's not exactly your cup of tea?

Is this really something that concerns/bothers people? I drive with windows down/music up all the time, I really enjoy it. I don't think to myself that I want other people to hear it (that's really bizarre.)

I like catching snippets of songs I haven't heard in years!

Same. I was at the gas station the other day and a guy was playing an oldie but goodie. I started singing along

Wear earphones. You are a sad, pathetic jerk.

It’s just another example of “Me, me, look at me!! Please look at me!”

I feel sorry for the “jerks”. It’s the only way they can me noticed.

You know what---there was NOTHING confrontational in the PP's post. She just presented another view. Is it absolutely necessary to go nuclear with the nasty name calling?
You REALLY can't find a more productive way to voice your disagreement?
WHat is it like to go through life so damned angry and lashing out?
