Waze Carpool What is the point?

Can someone help me understand the point of this app. I get that Waze charges $5 per ride. They get that money and that is a fine business model. However, what is in it for the drivers or riders? So few folks are signed up that you end up walking or picking up 20 plus minutes on each end of your commute. When I have asked for rides or offered rides no one responds. The driver does not see any of that money so they still have to pay for parking and driving anyway. The rider pays Waze's $5 each way and then has to walk 20 minutes on either end of the commute. The people that I have tried to ride and only come back as one way rides because they don't commute in my commute time. I have left 2.5 hours on each end of my commute for availability so I find that hard to believe. My metro ride from end of redline (Glenmont) into the Navy Yard is only $5.35 each way. Can someone help me understand how this works or what the benefit would be. I combo my drive with metro 2 days and driving 3. Thanks for any insight on this.
