How do you get the fish oil smell out of clothes and sheets?

Anonymous
For other moms who supplement their SN (or NT) children with fish oil: How do you get the smell out of clothes if there is a spill? My son threw up a few weeks ago shortly after I gave him his nightly dose of fish oil, and I can't get the smell out of the sleeper or sheets even after multiple washings. We use non-perfumed/non-toxic detergent, and I am wondering if maybe I should try a more standard one? I'm sure other folks out have ideas...so many of his clothes have vague fishy smells, and I'm used to that ( and i don't think he even smells it) but these items in particular just reek, and I am ready to throw them away.

Thanks for any advice.

No particular experience with fish oil, but with some other strong smells (gas spilled on a rag, dog's bed, etc.), I use a hot/cold cycle to wash, an extra rinse cycle, add vinegar to the bleach section of the detergent holder and try to line dry in the sun. I also use a non-perfumed/non-toxic detergent, FWIW.

2 cups of white vinegar and hot water in the washing machine.
