Preschool and Daycare Discussion

I am going back to work in 8 weeks and my very dear friend who is a SAHM will be watching DS for me. I am thrilled - she is wonderful, creative, caring, and has 10 years experience in teaching and working with children. I couldn't be luckier.
The problem is that she is not licensed and apparently has to be have a certification from the state to care for my son in her home. We want to do this the right way, so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how long it would take for her to get a license? In other words, how long would it take MD State Dept of Education to process her application? (I realize she also has to take courses and do a few other things, but just in terms of processing). Any other ideas, advice are certainly welcome. We are so lucky to be in this situation but I feel a little overwhelmed by this loophole! |

Hi,
I am a childcare provider and I am operating many years now. Having a license is not really complicated. First, your friend has to contact OCC (office of childcare) of her county. For montgomery the fone is 240-314-1400 and she has to register for the first orientation session. Then she has to attend the orientation and follow their guidlines: she must do 20 hours of certified trainings + first aid and CPR certfications+ fre marshall inspection + medical inspection + Home insurance+ Criminal background check. She must also have a substitute. If she organizes herself she can have her license in 6 to 12 months maximum. I wish her good luck and if she has any questions she can email me at athioye@hotmail.com |
