| I just got a $100 ticket in my neighborhood for going 36mph in a 25mph. I am very careful to drive slow on the street I live on knowing this camera is there. There is another car in my 2 photos in the left lane behind me. I am in the 'slow' right lane. There are 2 photos, each with a green line. The green line is at my back bumper in both photos. The green line is in front of the other car in the first photo and then bisects the other car in the second photo. Does anyone know for certain what the green lines mean? I wonder if the other car was the one actually speeding. Any suggestions on fighting this (and know if one can still get a speedometer calibration certificate in DC) is much appreciated! My car is 13 years old so wonder if this could be a reason. |

This site has a phone number for questions on the ticket.

| You don't get a ticket from a camera unless you are 12 mph over so i'm calling BS |
|
I challenged a speeding ticket (I was at fault) citing another car in the picture. Adjudicator denied the challenge saying that cameras can distinguish between different car speeds in different lanes.
There is no harm/cost in trying but seems like DC feels confident in their technology though. |

to the person calling BS, how lame and ignorant are you.. find something productive to do with your sad time! Seems like you should be the one getting the ticket.
thanks to the other helpful and classy people here on this thread! |
just got one on 4300 block of reservior road. 36 in 25 not the op. but I sympathize. i don't really think that the radar is that lane specific. laser is. but with two cars in the photo, they are probably sending tickets out to both vehicles. not sure how youwould prove it though not sure what the green lines mean they were on my ticket as well... |
| I've already heard you can argue the camera tickets if there's another vehicle in the photo because the machine cannot accurately get the speed of one vehicle with another one in close proximity. That's what I've been told but I've never had to argue it.. |
If it is true that they would send a ticket to both cars, that is a huge problem. They have an obligation to prove that your car was speeding. If the technology doesn't exist for them to do that with two cars in the picture, they shouldn't be issuing tickets to anyone. |
well the DC government is very honest and civically minded, and also looks out for its residents and visitors. they would never do this kind of unscrupulous behavior.... ok I almost got through typing this with out laughing out loud... |

Sounds as though the other car was speeding. I've never received a ticket in that kind of situation, where someone next to me was speeding, so perhaps this is a problem with a few cameras and not all of them? |

Like OP, we just got a ticket for going 36 in a 25 zone (on Loughboro near Sibley Hospital).
A ticket of $100 seems so high for this minor speeding. I confess we receive a few of these each year, even though we are very cautious in our driving. It seems like a blatant money grab by DC. |
Or you could slow down. $100 is high, but in addition to generating revenue it’s designed to be a detractor for people like you with a lead foot. |
No, you need to slow down. There is a good reason the area is posted at 25. |
