Acceptance Rate at St. Patrick's, Norwood, and Potomac

Anonymous
Does anybody know what the acceptance rate is like at St. Patrick's for PreK4 and at Norwood and Potomac for K? I am interested in these schools but I do not want to waste my money if chances are less than 1 in 5.

We are at Country Day School, which is considered a "feeder" school for Potomac. When my dd was headed to K, I knew sibling boys in her CDS class who were not admitted because they had too many legacy/sibling boys applying to Potomac. I think that they took one or two girls, but I don't remember that well (the playground talk was all about the boys).

Potomac is as competitive as the "Big 3" in DC. I don't know what the acceptance rate it, but it is not high. It allegedly helps if you offer geographic diversity - live in Maryland or DC.

Absolutely look at Norwood. We are so happy there. Because of location, it's acceptance rate is pretty good. The facility, teachers, and families are wonderful. The bus may help you if you are coming from NW DC. I would say chances of acceptance, given a smart, nice kid are in the 50% range. Good luck! BTW: I know all of those schools you are looking at pretty well, and think they are all terrific.

Whoops meant its not it's (PP here)

Be careful with Norwood. The sibs take half the spots, and I hear there are a lot of sibs. So I think maybe 20 spots for non sibs, with possibly 100 non sib applications.

Potomac is the hardest to get into of the three. You would have a pretty good shot at the other two and would have to do a little more work to get your child into Potomac.

Actually, I think St. Pat's might be the hardest, and I am not a SP parent.

No -- pp St. Pats isn't that hard to get into. Potomac is almost as hard to get into as Sidwell & Cathedral Schools.

I don't know much about either school since I live in MC, but isn't SP one of the schools people scramble for in the spring?

I think StP is at least as hard to get into as Potomac. I know of several kids who applied repeatedly to StP, did not get in, and ended up at Potomac the first time they were applied, for K. There seems to be an oft-repeated myth by some posters that StP is not very competitive but it is just a myth. I have no idea why people try to mislead others on this, its not doing anyone any good and just causes frustration once the one asking finds out the truth. Potomac and StP and Norwood are all very good schools. I do not have any knowledge of admissions ratesat Norwood but OP, I do know that the first two are very competitive.

The dumbest girls from my daughter's school came from St. Patrick's.

Nice. You must be very proud of yourself after writing something like that.

I can see where this is going...

Number of incoming siblings really depends on the year. most admissions officers will tell you honestly about how many sibs they're expecting for that year if you ask them one-on-one.

They are all about equally competitive and regarding very similarly in terms the academic and social experience. All three are terrific schools. You can't go wrong if you get into one of them. I would apply to all three.
