How often do men completely remove their shirts in your yoga class?

Anonymous
Does this happen at hot yoga? I am a longtime gym regular and a longtime yoga (regular temp--not hot) studio regular at multiple places. Today in class at the yoga studio a man removed his shirt completely and I was totally shocked but I don't know why. Maybe because it was so outside the norm of what I usually see? I happen to hate it when men wear tank tops in close proximity to me (like yoga or spinning) because they let out all the arm funk that sleeves keep in (since I can't move and get away from the odor) but I was a couple of rows back so that wasn't the issue here.

men always just wear bottoms in the yoga i’ve done. Very much the norm, IMO

Yep this is totally normal and common in the classes I’ve attended.

I'm a man who does yoga, and I've never felt the urge to take my shirt off. I don't think I'm especially stinky, either.

In america it would not be normal (as in: the norm) for a man to remove his shirt in non heated yoga.

It would be the norm in hot yoga or bikram yoga. 80% of the men at CorePower take their shirts off.

Yup, happens all the time in hot yoga. I'm a woman, and I only wear a sports bra on top during hot yoga. You'd have to pay me a ton to keep my shirt on--I sweat like crazy!

Normal and annoying. Blatant example of male privilege.

Nah. Women are perfectly welcome to remove their shirts, too.

I don't go to a yoga studio with hot yoga. Everyone wears shirts.

I've been doing yoga for almost 20 years and from what I've observed, in a regular vinyasa flow class, most people (men and women) wear shirts. In the bikram classes I've done, women (including me) are in a sports bra and some sort of bottom, while the guys are usually shirtless. It's so freaking hot in those classes that I don't blame them.

The plea I have for people doing bikram/hot yoga is to PLEASE shower beforehand! Body odor is totally amplified in those rooms and it's really gross.

What about those of us women who take off our shirts? I doubt the sports bra is what's making me sweat like crazy. I'm the first to smash the patriarchy, but there's no male privilege in something women can easily do, too.
