What's happened to the Catholic pre-schools in DC ?

Anonymous
I went to Catholic schools in another state from pre-school through 12th grade. I haven't seen any recs for Catholic pre-schools IN DC ? My current church's school starts at first grade. Can anyone recommend a Catholic pre school in the city ?

Here's the list from the Archdiocese website. Looks like several have Nursery programs. Some right along the MD border do too.

Op again,
Actually, I'm looking for feedback from parents with kids in Catholic pre-k/elementary school in dc

Where are you looking in DC?

The Washington Dioscean converted a bunch of schools from Catholic Schools to Charter Schools 2 years ago as the Archdiocese could no longer afford maintaining these schools as much of the student population was non-Catholic. My understanding is that much of the staff continued but they eliminated all aspects of Catholic / religious teaching as these are now public schools.

I don't have a specific area of DC that I am searching. I know about a lot of the schools being converted into charter schools. I'm seeking names of schools that ARE still part of the archdiocese that have nursery/pre-k programs. My church's school is not a charter, but doesn't start until first grade. So, DC parents who are happy with their child's catholic pre-k, let me hear from you !

These programs are few and far between. I know that Holy Trinity in Georgetown is closing their nursery program next year.

It's frustrating -- and a bit unusual -- that your parish school doesn't start until first grade.

We're catholic and are probably doing catholic elementary schools, but we went with nursery schools run by other denominations (methodist and presbyterian) for our children. The schools seemed like good fits and they got some basic religion in there. At the methodist school in particular, the kids were overwhelmingly catholic!

Which methodist nursery school did your children attend ?

There's a discussion on the private school boards about St. Ann's, Blessed Sacrament, Annunciation and Our Lady of Victory (all in DC). You might want to take a look at that thread.

I've heard only good things about the Scrilli School in NE (Brookland). Its run by Carmelite nuns. Lots of families in Brookland send their kids there. The web site is: http://scrillischool.org/

The prior posting reminded me that the Little Workers also have a preschool in NE DC. A former coworker sent a child there and loved it. Not a lot of info here but this is the basic contact information http://www.littleworkers.org/lwsh2/contact.html
