What is this vile style of music and why are they ruining spectacular songs by covering them in their weird, weird way? Make it go away. |
The idea is that they take contemporary songs and cover them using historical styles. There are several songs I’ve heard where the original isn’t my taste, but their spin is in a style I like.(Their Beach Boys-style cover of the 90s song “Barbie Girl” comes to mind.)
Not all of them are to everyone’s taste—like most music! I love them, but if you don’t, you don’t have to listen. |
Music listener here and I’ve never heard of this!
Maybe I have but didn’t know it had a label. Will google, but since you’re willing to discuss...examples? |
I’m 21:14. Postmodern Jukebox is an actual group that uses arrangements by its founder Scott Bradlee. Their singers rotate depending on the style of the song, but many of the musicians stay constant. Some of my favorite covers are: “All About That Bass”- https://youtu.be/aLnZ1NQm2uk “Creep”- https://youtu.be/m3lF2qEA2cw “Happy”- https://youtu.be/xywNeumntoE “Stacy’s Mom”- https://youtu.be/T2kOj-GFN8k “Zombie”- https://youtu.be/xiDKLltU118 “Barbie Girl”- https://youtu.be/4ReSV3CCRzg |
My DW and I love them. |
Awful. If they were just instrumental, maybe, but their vocalists are annoying. |
They are hideous covers of popular songs. Whiny, affected, overly dramatic, tuneless. It's impossible to sing along because the original arrangements are changed. Awful.
|
I love them! |
+1. We do too. You can find them on youtube. The women singers are amazing. |
Literally the whole point is that the arrangements are changed. If you want to sing along, listen to the original. |
I love good covers. I find Postmodern Jukebox a mixed bag but some are pretty good. Speaking of covers, does anyone know Richard Cheese? He does amazing lounge covers of pop and rock songs. Here’s his cover of Limp Bizkit’s “Nookie.” ![]() https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8l0IbaOr6go |
Barf. |
Never heard of them, but I like them! Thanks OP. |
Interesting - I didn't hate the Creep cover. Nice spin on it. |
Pinball wizard sung to the tune of Folsom prison blues was creative.
