Health and Medicine
Okay, I'm pregnancy (just over 4 months) and have felt crappy the last couple of days. Monday night - fever of almost 101 and achy, tired, etc. Tuesday, felt better during the day and worked from home. Tuesday night - yucky again but not bad enough for Tylenol and fever did not go above 100.4 or so. Wednesday (today) feel achy but fever is much lower (99.2 or so) but my chest hurts (kind of like when you have had bronchitis). I have been coughing and had diarrhea the last 2 days. Could this be swine? I'm trying to figure out what "chest hurts" means b/c supposedly according to the CDC website, I am to seek medical attention immediately?
Your chest hurts, so call your doctor right away. There is no reason to take a chance.
Agree 100% with this. Never hurts to be safe than sorry. |
Thanks to all who responded. Doc's office is closed for lunch but I'll call when they reopen. I am just honestly sick of going to the doctor's office (I've been sick, DS has been sick, sick parent) and I was hoping to avoid germs if at all possible. I don't want to worry all night so I think you're right. I could tough it out if it weren't for the chest thing. It feels tight all the time and when I walk up/down the stairs I'm out of breath for awhile, and when I take a deep breathe it hurst/is uncomfortable.
PP here -- um, can you page them while they are at lunch? PLEEEASE? |
PP don't worry. I'll call at 1. My PCP is very good at getting back to me promptly. I think I may be dehydrated and need more fluids... Will try to write back with an update...
I might also drink some hot steaming tea and sit in the bathroom with the shower running. I am almost certain you will told to go to the ER if you are experiencing active trouble breathing so it might make since to try to have the symptoms go away and then just go into get checked generally. (I had chest pain while pregnant and neither my OB or PCP wanted any responsibility for just giving me advice over the phone). anyone in your family have asthma? a puff on an inhaler may help (if you confirm with the OB that it is okay). Good luck.
My PCP called back and said that there is ia virus going around (not swine flu) and I forgot to mention that I received the vaccine mid-October (sorry - pregnancy brain and I'm TIRED). So he thought that the vaccine should be effective in preventing swine flu. He suggested hot tea/steam shower (way to go PP) and Tylenol, rest, lots of fluid, and REGULAR Robitussin (not DM, etc). Thanks for all of your helpful suggestions. DH is at work and I'm at home freaking out so this forum helped between 12:30 and 1 while waiting for the office to open!
Hope you feel better OP!
THANK YOU. I have to say this confirmed my decision that I'm glad I got vaccinated. I feel miserable and this isn't swine? I can only imagine how awful women must feel IF they have swine and are pregnant...
