My rental car is a cheap base model, cloth interior — how do people drive cars like this?

I don’t like leather - it’s cold and animal skins weird me out. I also don’t care about fancy features in a car, but I don’t drive many miles. Maybe I’d feel differently if I sat in 495 for two hours every day.

I have a vehicle allowance that covers my lease payment; my husband has a free company car

There's something so cozy about driving in a beautiful new car, the technology, the comfy leather, quiet engine, all the creature comforts. And sure, maybe some status. Today has reinforced my outlook that it's so freaking worth it to splurge a little on new wheels.

Answer this question OP.

Why the hell did you rent the cheapest car in the lot?

There, you got your answer.

Poor negotiating. I prefer to ask for higher salary or more vacation days in lieu of a car allowance.

Corinthian Leather.

Da plane.

Pick up last week’s issue of People magazine if you can.
There is a lovely article on him in there.

And yes....
You are very welcome.

I hope your hubby doesn’t peddle Mary Kay.

So, did OP post how much she/he earns and what car she/her drives? Or was that OP saying they have car allowance from the company? Funny how such a simple question is not answered. I am guessing she is extending herself way too much with this "decked" car, hence renting a cheap car. Wealthy people don't post stupid posts like this.

I also hate leather, but I hate it because it is disgusting in summer. Who wants to stick to their car seat? We went test driving in the middle of summer and I ruled out leather right away because it made me a disgusting mess of stickiness.

Does this mean you walk everywhere? Because cars are awfully cruel on the environment.

We have nice cars but no where near the top of the line or that cost as much as some people's homes.
There are nice things, and then there is just unneeded expenses for the sake of having things.

Unless I am living in my car, I do not need the creature comforts of home. Its a car. Lets not forget that. Literally a car.
