Has anyone does this girls-only summer soccer camp?
girlsacademysoccer.com/summer-camp/ It looks appealing but I can't say I've ever heard of it before. This summer the camp is held at Georgetown Day School's campus on MacArthur Blvd in NW DC. Anyone have any experience with it? |

Yes. It's the same camp that, until this year, was held at Sidwell. Karen Kelser (was at Stoddert for years, now at Arlington) runs it with her husband, Khaled Hamami, who's director of girls' coaching for Stoddert.
My impression--though this was before Kelser left Stoddert--was that it was largely an extension of the kind of coaching they did for the younger girls' travel teams at Stoddert, with the addition of a "World Cup" competition on the last day. In the past it was primarily attended by Stoddert travel girls, but that may have changed since Kelser is at Arlington. Mostly younger girls up to U12 or U13, with a few older girls, maybe up to U15. There were always a few non-travel players looking for a challenge (or a spot on a team!) too. I think it's a good option for younger girls looking for a girls-only atmosphere and some decent coaching. That said, I didn't stick around much, so a lot of this comes from what little I could glean from DD. |
