Give it to me straight - infotainment system in a '18 Mazda CX 5

Anonymous
We are a fully Apple/Mac family - iMac, MacBook, iPads and iPhones all around. We are in the market for a new crossover SUV and like the CX 5 better than others in the class. The only drawback is the lack of CarPlay. Just how much of an issue is the system in the Mazda? Do you have issues with the Bluetooth connection? Have you tried the CarPlay hack that is widely available online?

We are almost ready to pull the trigger on the CX 5, but the future of CarPlay in Mazdas is uncertain, at best, and has us worried. Mazda owners please chime in! We'll get the Nav option but are still concerned about forgoing CarPlay, at least in the near term. All opinions (BTDT especially!) are welcome =) TIA!

I have a 2012 Mazda CX-9 and have never had any issues with my iPhone. We use Bluetooth.

This may sound nutty, but as another Mac family in the market for a new car, we didn't even consider any that didn't have CarPlay. So that meant Mazda and Toyota were out. Recently purchased a car with CarPlay and I really like having maps, music, contacts, etc. on the screen...of course I also really like the car. It's not just about bluetooth and making calls. It's not a crossover SUV so this post is not very helpful :0 but I chimed in anyway about the CarPlay.

Do you mind sharing your list? We're in a mac family, as well, and about to buy a small SUV/crossover.

Lack of CarPlay (and cramped back seat) nixed the CX5 for us. We went with the Subaru Outback. Love it.

I’m the CarPlay poster from above - we went with the new Accord. I can’t help you with small SUVs, we were looking for a change. The Apple website has a list of models with CarPlay https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/available-models/

Cramped back seat? I have a 2016 CX-5 and the backseat is SO roomy. I’m a Nanny and constantly have 2-3 kids back there and there is plenty of Room.

Sorry but as a single person, I find that my backseat is somewhat cramped. If I have a kid, I’ll trade in my CX-5.
