Which prenatal vitamin brands have you found to be the most effective?
I am starting on Rainbow Light Complete and Nordic naturals DHA. We are just beginning our first foray into TTCing. |
| What do you mean by effective, OP? You don't really notice the effects of a prenatal. They are all pretty much the same, although some have iron, some don't, etc etc. I took rainbow light and Nordic naturals DHA and thought they were both fine! |
| I take CVS-brand prenatals. Have a healthy toddler. I'm not sure what you're asking, OP, but any prenatal vitamin is likely to be fine. If you have special needs, talk to your OB or midwife -- they can prescribe something or make a recommendation. |
| My stomach couldn't handle a lot. I did the gummies with iron separate later in the day. |
| Also confused by question. If you're asking about fertility supplements, those are separate from prenatals. Many fertility clinics have a list they recommend you take for 2-3 months before TTC for best egg quality. Depends on your age as to whether it would be worth it perhaps. It Starts With the Egg is a book that explains that theory. |
| Sorry for the confusion, i was researching prenatals and read different reviews from people saying some made them feel sick and others didn't so my question was which prenatal pills did you use that didn't cause side effects. |
|
I used gummy prenatals and a separate iron supplement (liquid - Floradix). I didn't start the iron supplement until after I was pregnant and I chose the liquid one based on the recommendation of my midwife because it was easier on my stomach and didn't cause constipation.
I had no issue with the gummy vitamins. |
You really won't know what makes you sick until you're pregnant. It can be: iron, large pills make you gag because of increased gag reflex, fishy smell of DHA, etc. I think diet is more important than the pill prior to pregnancy. |
|
That's the exact combo I took with DD while TTC and pregnant. Never made me constipated or more nauseous than I already was. Also started taking Floradix at the recommendation of my midwives because of possible hemorrhage risk, not iron levels, about halfway through pregnancy.
Switched to the Rainbow Light one daily prenatal and regular Nordic Naturals cod liver oil supplement while breastfeeding. Not TTC yet, but planning to start in the next few months. Unless there's something noteworthy I'm overlooking, I'll stick with the once daily and regular cod liver oil through the next pregnancy. |
| CVS prenatals were great. They always have sales as well. They never made me sick and I have a healthy toddler. |
| My OB gave me a bunch of samples. (One or two pills each for 4 different vitamins). Before pregnancy I used the generic Walgreens brand, after I used the kind I liked best from the samples. |
| They are all pretty much the same. I took the GNC ones. |
|
I liked the Rainbow Light ones because the generic drug store ones stopped me up. The Rainbow ones have a probiotic which I think helped keep me regular.
The iron can be constipating. So finding one that doesn't stop you up is the key. Other than that, they are all the same. |
