Hello,
I am going to be delivering at Sibley next month and just found out that they do not provide birthing balls. My Lamaze instructor said that I can bring my own. Any recommendations on what to look for in a birthing ball? What size? I found some on Amazon for about $15... Thanks |

Birth balls/yoga balls/excercise balls (they're one and the same) typically come in 55, 65, and 75cm sizes. The 65cm ball works well for most women, but you may find a smaller/larger ball more comfortable if you are shorter or taller than average. I'd recommend one that comes with a pump -- otherwise you can't go wrong with any that you choose. They run $15-25.
One trick to keep in mind: wrap a sarong or long piece of cloth around the ball and tie off. You'll have makeshift handles for carrying the unwieldy ball and can use the sarong as a rebozo during labor. Best of luck! Heather Wilson, CD(DONA) Birth Doula www.heatherwilsondoula.com |
| just a note, they told me that no balls at sibley too but the room i delivered in most definitely had one...you may want to ask around if this is other people's experience too.. |
