Can I wear skinny jeans?

Anonymous
I love the look of them on models but I don't know...

I'm a size 4/6 but definitely always gain weight in my thighs and behind. So, I feel like I'm always thinner on top than on the bottom. I'm also only 5'4'.

Is it possible for me to pull these off and if so, how? I'd love to try it but am wondering if I should try to drop a size before attempting. Seriously!

What are you waiting for? It will be worse when you are older! That's why I wear mini skirts, skinny jeans, etc...

Of course, eating clean and exercising never hurt anyone, but wear the jeans right now.

Skinny jeans are best for women in their 20's and for those who carry their broadness up top. It also helps to have really long legs that are fairly thin all the way down.

Certainly go and try them on but balance them with a top that has some volume in order to make the bottom appear smaller. The pants should also be a dark, matte color so as not to make your lower half look larger. Don't forget that these pants require higher heels.

I wouldn't spend alot on them - skinny pants are on their way out - you'll get one season out of them.

Here we go, another thread with people trying to declare from on high that women past 29 shouldn't wear certain things! (Yes, I'm exaggerating, but only slightly if you have read some of those past threads.) Haven't we all BTDT? OP, if they look good on you, wear them. Agree with PP who said to seize the moment and do it now.

Try the highest heels you are comfortable with, and get an honest girlfriend to go with you to try them on. Size 4/6 sounds skinny to me! Good luck.

Fashion fright who just bought a pair of skinny jeans here: can someone please explain why I need to wear very high heels with them? I am clueless! I don't even own a pair of real high heels--can't I get away with wearing other types of shoes with them?

OP here. I'm 31...does that mean I can still wear the jeans or should I only have worn them a few years ago.

Seriously though, I just haven't figured out if they look good or not. I will try them with seriously high heels (which I do love to wear) and a loose (or more voluminous) top. I have a lot of great girlfriends but I can't say I have any that are that honest about clothes. Ha. I think maybe we tend to just be really nice to each other. If I only I could post a picture here, then I'd get a REALLY honest opinion. Right?

OP here again, to the PP's question re: why do I have to wear heels? I think it is because it just makes your legs look better (longer, skinnier). I started thinking about the skinny jeans because I was looking at the banana republic website. I just revisited it and all the ridiculously skinny models are wearing heels with the skinny jeans. http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=5030&mlink=5002,1321461,5&clink=1321461

I think if you have really thin (or particularly long) legs you might be able to get away with cute flats with the jeans?

I think you should wear them in the fall with high boots over them

Heels are required for skinny pants due to proportional issues and the fact that when you wear heels, they lengthen and slim your ankles and calves. Flats will make your lower legs appear wider.

PP also suggests tall boots, which is another great option. That is the only way Parisian women wore them this year.

Before flaming the 5:48 poster, the 7:47 poster should have read that the pp didn't say anyone over 30 shouldn't wear them. She implied that these looks will work better for those on the younger side, but didn't give a cutoff age.

It is a younger look. If you're hip, 30ish and have a body and lifestyle that is conducive, by all means. But if you are in your 40's, carry your weight in your lower body or do volunteer work at school or other conservative environment, this may not be a good choice. Nothing worse than older moms who try to dress like their teen daughters or deny the fact that their bodies have aged.

It would have been helpful for the OP to have given her approximate age. We are all just guessing here.

You can do it. I am not a crazy, out there kind of mom, but I wear them in the winter with Frey tall boots. I tuck them in, and wear a longish sweater or shirt so my bum isn't showing. I prefer not to flaunt my round bum (I am fit, but my bum is very shapely). I also wear them with high heeled tall boots when I dress up a bit more. I am also 36 and short. If you are confident, have a reasonably fit body and some confidence, do it.

If you have thick hips and a thick bottom, skinny jeans will probably not look so hot. Especially if your legs are on the shorter side. Because skinny jeans taper complete at the ankle, it will accentuate your thickness at the waist.

I am 41 and a size 6 and I wear them. I do wear them with a more voluminous and longer shirt that covers my hips. You can also get ones that aren't that tight... Go for it!

Do you legs touch at all above the knee when you are standing up strait with your feet together? If the answer is no, GO FOR IT! If the answer is a little at the top, still go for it, but get a pair that is very dark and not the thin stretchy denim. It tends to look cheaper and like you are "stretching" the fabric. Ditto on the super high heals, and if you have some touching, maybe go for a longer top. If you are worried about your thighs, DON'T wear boots because that will just divide your body into 3 blocks: boots, thighs/but, and top. As opposed to heals, which will elongate the whole leg. If you have lots of thight touching, probably stay away, but if you feel great in them and can put a killer outfit together, absolutely go for it anyway!
