Can anyone tell me about this college? Is it easier to transfer to the main UVA campus if you start here? TIA.

There is guarantee admission from community college. I don't think they do the same for UVA at Wise.

Both UVA and UVA Wise have guaranteed admission agreements with NoVA -- http://www.nvcc.edu/apps/1/transfersearch/gaasearch.aspx

+1. Just to put it in perspective, the nearest mall is 1hr15min away and that's pretty dumpy. It's 7 hours from Fairfax with no stops. It's not any easier to transfer to uva Charlottesville from uva wise than any other Va school.

The OP asked about transfer to UVA. UVA doesn't guarantee transfer from Wise, but they do for community college.

Better experience than community college. At least they're going away.

When my child was waitlisted at UVA, they received an option for a deferred admission agreement where they could enrolled at UVA Wise and complete 60 hours of transferable credit with 3.0 GPA or better - and if they met those conditions, they would be guaranteed admission to UVA Charlottesville automatically.

20 yrs ago when I was applying to college, this was my understanding of UVA Wise. That it was a feeder school for UVA

It's a really remote, really pretty school was nice people and a good atmosphere. I have a close friend who teaches there and I have visited. I don't know about the rights to UVA, but I can tell you about the area.

It is REMOTE! 7 hours solid from DC. There is a Walmart and a few shops for basics (a Bealls, maybe?) but very little else. Some decent restaurants - like a handful. My friend lives in Norton, the next town from Wise, and both are cute small towns. People are really friendly. Coal country. The next town over is where the novels about Big Stone Gap are set. There's a cute used bookstore.

If you're into nature, it's beautiful in the mountains. If your kids wanted to study science or ecology I think it would be a good fit. Seems like a very close knit community at the university.

Not super diverse. But not too rednecky.

That was still the offer to my D.C. Who is on this year's uva waitlist.

UVA Wise also offers the only undergrad degree in VA for software engineering.

How is that different than computer engineering? Sounds like the same thing.

These software engineering grads are in high demand, with many recruited to work in Nova.
